Welcome to Omagh High School We are an all ability school and have high expectations of all the boys and girls in our care. Our aim is to nurture and develop the individual talents of each pupil in order that they enter society as a well-rounded individual, able to contribute positively to the community in which they live. We aim to create a supportive, well-ordered and welcoming environment that challenges each pupil to strive towards reaching their full potential. Young people are encouraged to make the most of the numerous opportunities on offer at Omagh High School ranging from music, drama, public speaking, outdoor activities, community service or clubs and societies. We see ourselves as a happy, vibrant hard-working community and promote mutual respect and integrity. When our pupils leave us we want them to be able to make the most of the opportunities that come their way. Many pupils will not be able to have a job for life - society is changing so fast that our young people will have to be able to adapt to meet these changes. Pupils will have to embrace the life-long learning concept, as they may have to change jobs several times in adulthood. We feel we will have done our job if we can provide our pupils with the necessary transferable skills that can be of use in the future. We value our partnerships with parents and the community. Our collaborative links with Omagh Academy, Omagh College and Arvalee Resource Centre allow us to provide a truly broad curriculum providing opportunities for all. The school opened in 1961 as Omagh County Secondary Intermediate School having then an enrolment of 645 and a staff of 24. Its present enrolment is around 416 with a staff complement of 32. For over forty years Omagh High has established an impressive reputation and track record. Since it opened, Omagh High has had close links with Omagh Academy and Omagh College. Thousands of our former pupils have progressed to Higher Education courses at Universities and Colleges all over the British Isles. At the end of Key Stage 4 all pupils enter for external examinations mainly GCSE. The school has a thriving sixth form, 47 in total. Pupils of Omagh High School are offered a wide variety of GCE ‘A’ levels through a consortium arrangement with Omagh Academy and Omagh College. The management of both schools have co-ordinated post-16 timetables so that pupils can choose subjects that meet their needs. This means that post-16 pupils attend both schools. Omagh College also provides subject options for our pupils. Consequently, the pupils of Omagh High School have access to a much wider range of options. The school aims to further increase provision and seeks to provide an education to meet the needs of our pupils in order that they have every opportunity to enter the workforce with confidence. Omagh High has a catchment of thirteen primary schools and is a caring, co–educational, non-denominational school. Omagh High maintains extensive extra-curricular activities, trips and visits. Teams from Omagh High have represented Northern Ireland in the Fire Safety Competition, have twice been the recipient of the Health Promoting School’s award and in 1992 became United Kingdom Champions in the National Schools Challenge.
